IF YOU ARE A GRIEVER REMEMBER:

  • You’re not going crazy!
  • Your experience of grief is unique to you, therefore whatever you feel is valid.
  • Your grief will transform over time as you learn to transmit your grief.
  • Let this time be all about you, be kind to yourself.

IF YOU WANT TO HELP A GRIEVER REMEMBER:

  • Small things matter. You don’t need to do much to have a great impact.
  • The griever already knows what you’re doing is difficult for you.
  • Don’t take anything personally, it’s not about you. Don’t expect a thank you!
  • You can’t fix anything. You only need to be a patch in a great comforter.

A Patch of Comfort

About Marilyn Sullivan

Marilyn Sullivan learned the lessons found in her book from those who comforted her in large and small ways after the death of her daughter Erin. She wants to pass these lessons onto you who want to help others who seek comfort. Sullivan was surprised by who stepped forward in unexpected ways and who did not when she anticipated their support. She also discovered how our society does not teach us what to do for ourselves and each other in the most common journey of our lives.
